As we prepare to celebrate Lunar New Year, we offer you a personal story of what the new year tradition means to Erkang Zheng, CEO of JupiterOne.

Hello, and Happy Lunar New Year, from beautiful Cary, North Carolina. I am Erkang Zheng, CEO of JupiterOne. Let's welcome the year of the Tiger, as we say goodbye to the year of the Ox. In Chinese culture, the Zodiac animal, the Tiger, represents the power of courage, optimism, tolerance, and generosity. We are excited to begin this new year, as we embrace the virtues of the Tiger.

As an Asian American and an immigrant myself, it has been difficult to celebrate this most important holiday each year, separated from my culture and my family. But in recent years, technology has made it possible to be together, virtually. We are able to live stream and watch the New Year's galas as they happen in China. Even in the midst of a global pandemic when traveling is not an option, we are able to be together with family and close friends over Zoom or WeChat or Facetime. All of this is made possible because of cloud, software, and technology.

It is not just the technology that is changing. I can feel the culture change around me, too. The culture is becoming more inclusive, more accepting. In America, there are more people recognizing and celebrating the Lunar New Year than ever before. 

We see this everyday at JupiterOne and we embrace a culture of diversity, inclusion, equality, and transparency. In the past year, we have expanded our team from less than 30 people to over 100. We are no longer limited to proximity when it comes to choosing people for our team. Gender, race, and religion play no role in finding the best people in the world. Geography and cultural barriers are no longer an obstacle. And we enjoy virtual happy hours regularly. I am happy, proud, and grateful for this inclusion.

The technology that allows us to work together as a global community of technologists building a safer and better world, is the same technology that allows us to celebrate with our families this Lunar New Year, no matter where we are. 

I'm happy to play a role, personally and as JupiterOne, protecting the technology that has brought us closer and enables our ability to celebrate together anytime anywhere.
